The public is invited to enjoy free events throughout October related to the current exhibition, Embodying Enlightenment: Buddhist Art of the Himalayas, which runs through January 3, 2016, at McClung Museum.
Embodying Enlightenment explores the rich history of Buddhist art from Tibet, Nepal, China, and India spanning the eighth century to the present.
From 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, the museum will host Eddy Falls of the UT philosophy department as he gives the lecture “Deity Yoga and Metaphysics in Tibetan Buddhism.” He will discuss Buddhist philosophy in relation to the objects in the exhibition. No reservation is required for this event.
The museum will also host a stroller tour and activity from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 19. This program will focus on Buddhist folk tales and how they relate to sculptures and paintings in the exhibition. The tour is free and open to the public, but reservations are necessary and are first-come, first-served. Online registration is preferred. Participants also may call 865-974-2144 to make a reservation.
The McClung Museum is located at 1327 Circle Park Drive. Museum admission is free, and the museum’s hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. Free two-hour museum parking passes are available from the parking kiosk at the entrance to Circle Park Drive during the week. Free parking is available on the weekends. Free public transportation to the museum is also available via the Knoxville Trolley Vol Line.
