Steve Thomas, a longtime librarian at UT and a former president of the Faculty Senate, passed away on July 15.

B-30-39058-01.jpgThomas was well-known to the campus for his many years of service on the Faculty Senate, culminating in his leadership as president in 2012-2013.

For more than thirty years, Thomas was the expert and final authority on the accuracy of the libraries’ bibliographic records. He joined the University Libraries in 1981 and assumed responsibility for converting card-catalog records to machine-readable format. Through successive migrations, from the old card catalog to the present cloud-hosted platform, he assured the integrity of the libraries’ database of several million records.

Thomas recently retired from the university and was honored with the title of professor emeritus. His contributions to the libraries are an enduring legacy of grace, humor, and hard work. He will be deeply missed by his family at the University Libraries.
