In honor of the new exhibit, Through the Lens: Botanical Photography of Alan S. Heilman, UT’s McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture will host “Beauty of the Macro World,” an illustrated presentation by local nature photographer Kendall Chiles, at 3:00 p.m. on June 14.

Kendall_Chiles_Daylily Closeup_0909“Beauty of the Macro World” will explore the natural world in extreme close-up.

Macro photography requires patience, skill and precise technical application of specialized photography equipment. Photographing the macro world opens the door to an endless variety of details, textures and patterns not otherwise seen.

Kendall Chiles is a freelance nature and travel photographer and a UT graduate. He is an instructor for the UT Professional and Personal Development Program and the Smoky Mountain Field School. Some of his publication credits include covers for Amphoto Books, a publisher; Birds and Blooms, Blue Ridge Country, and Tennessee Conservationist magazines; web photos for the Great Smoky Mountains Association; and photo prints for the Smoky Mountain Visitors Bureau.

The lecture, which will be held in the museum’s auditorium, is free and open to the public.

Kendall_Chiles_Columbine 3_6707Through the Lens, a new exhibition featuring fifty-five botanical photographs by retired UT botany professor Alan S. The McClung Museum is located at 1327 Circle Park Drive. Museum admission is free, and the museum’s hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1:00–5:00 p.m. Sunday.
