Steve Inskeep, an anchor of National Public Radio’s Morning Edition, will speak at the Bijou Theatre on Tuesday, June 2.
The campus community is invited to the 7:00 p.m. event downtown. Inskeep will discuss his new book, Jacksonland: President Andrew Jackson, Chief John Ross, and a Great American Land Grab, a narrative history of two men who led their respective nations at a crossroads of American history.
Dan Feller, UT professor of history, will introduce Inskeep at the event. Feller was an early reader of Inskeep’s manuscript. He also is the editor and director of the Papers of Andrew Jackson, a multivolume project that is supported by UT, the National Archives, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required online.
An onstage book signing will follow Inskeep’s talk. Union Avenue Books will have copies of Jacksonland available for purchase at the Bijou that evening.
Friends of the Knox County Public Library is hosting the event. Additional sponsors include WUOT 91.9 FM, which is licensed to UT and is an NPR member; the East Tennessee Historical Society; and the Knox County Public Library.
