Civil War filmmaker and director Ron Maxwell will screen excerpts from his movies and discuss the films at the McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture on Saturday, May 2.
The 2:00–4:00 p.m. event is part of Knoxville’s sesquicentennial Civil War commemoration.
Maxwell, a nationally known filmmaker noted for his Civil War films including Gettysburg, Gods and Generals, and Copperhead, will show selected excerpts from his movies. A question-and-answer session with the director will follow the screening.
Maxwell’s films have been widely praised for their accurate and passionate presentation of the Civil War’s most memorable moments and characters. Kevin Thomas of the Los Angeles Times said the films impart “an awesome sense of authenticity and scope,” with battle scenes that “attain a level of accomplishment that is likely to intrigue and please legions of Civil War buffs.”
The event is free, but seating in the museum auditorium is limited.
The McClung Museum is located at 1327 Circle Park Drive. Museum admission is free, and the museum’s hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. Free two-hour museum parking passes are available from the parking information building at the entrance to Circle Park Drive on the weekdays. Free public transportation to the museum is also available via the Knoxville Trolley Vol Line.
