A summertime dream? Nope. Just another day at work.

Knoxville-area faculty, staff, and retirees are invited to the Picnic on the Plaza, to be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1, at the Humanities Amphitheater. Picnic on the Plaza, hosted by Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek with support from the Institute of Agriculture, the Institute for Public Service, and President Joe DiPietro, is a special event to celebrate UT’s faculty and staff and thank them for their service and excellence.

“This event is a way to say thank you to our faculty and staff for all that they do throughout the academic year,” said Cheek.

Join the chancellor and special guests for a Southern barbecue picnic with music, games, and giveaways. RecSports will have games such as giant checkers, Connect Four, bocce, and cornhole set up for guests to enjoy.

Volunteer Dining will serve barbecue chicken, potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, banana pudding, orange and white snow cones, and beverages. A vegetarian entrée option also will be available.

Invitations will be sent via e-mail, but attendees do not need to RSVP.

In the event of rain, the picnic will move to Thompson-Boling Arena.
