Summer break is just around the corner, but learning doesn’t have to stop just because school is out. UT offers many fun and interesting summer camps that keep kids active and learning. Here’s a look at some of those camps:

4-H Camps

Electric Camp

Dates: July 7–10

Grades: 6–7

Location: University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Cost: $245

This fee includes the cost of meals, lodging, fields trips, T-shirt, insurance, and program. Transportation fees are covered by members of the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association.

 

Target Smart Camp

Dates: June 29–July 2

Grades: 5–9

Location: WP Ridley 4-H Center Columbia, Tennessee

Cost: $250

 

Other Camps

4-H also offers Junior 4-H Camps for grades 4–6. The five-day residential camps, held at various sites around the state, include swimming, golfing, music, group sports, and hiking.

4-H Adventure Camps, for grades 6–8, are for held at various sites around the state and offer activities like mock archaeological digs, fishing, tubing, nature hikes, canoeing, swimming, and survivor challenges.

Architecture and Design

Design Matters Camp

Dates: July 12–17

Grades: High school students through age 17

Location: Art and Architecture Building

Cost: $985

A summer camp for high school students, Design Matters, offers motivated high school students an introduction to the design of the built environment and the considerations that shape it. This week-long immersion allows participants to experience life as a design student on a university campus through its setting, curriculum, and instruction. Previous architecture or design experience is not necessary. Visit the College of Architecture and Design for more information.

McClung Museum Camps

Archaeokids: Exploring Ancient Art and Archaelogy

Dates: June 22–26

Time: 1:00–4:00 p.m.

Grades: 4–6

Location: McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture

Cost: $110 per child; $99 per child for museum members

Campers will discover the art and culture of ancient peoples through archaeology and other activities, including making pottery and mummy masks, handling artifacts, using ancient tools, and exploring foodways. All materials and snack are included.

Dig It! Fun with Fossils

Dates: July 13–17

Times: 1:00–4:00 p.m.

Grades: 4–6

Location: McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture

Cost: $110 per child; $99 per child for museum members

Dinosaurs, mosasaurs, mastodons, and other extinct animals are presented through real fossils, hands-on activities, excavation, and food. All materials and snack are included.

Clarence Brown Theatre Summer Acting Workshop

Session 1: July 6–17

Session 2: July 20–31

Time: 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Grades: 9–college freshmen

Location: Clarence Brown Theatre

Cost: $525

Participants will have classes in acting technique, voice and movement, improvisation and musical theater. No prior experience is necessary, and each session will culminate in a public showcase of the students’ work. Twenty participants will be accepted in each session on a first come, first served basis. Adventures in STEM Girls Camp

Dates: July 6–10

Time: 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Monday–Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Friday

Grades: 7–8

Location: Min H. Kao Building

Cost: $125

Students will be immersed in a week full of hands-on activities, lab visits, and team projects in UT labs and classrooms that expose the exciting challenges of being a scientist or researcher.
