Cello amateurs, professionals, and enthusiasts from around the United States will converge at UT for an intensive three-day exploration and celebration of the instrument from Friday, Feb. 27, to Sunday, March 1.
The annual Tennessee Cello Workshop will feature a series of master classes, lectures, ensemble events, and competitions.
Community members are invited to attend several free public concerts that will be presented as part of the three-day workshop. All performances will be in the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center.
The first concert will be 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, and will feature UT and Ohio State University cello ensembles. It will be held in the Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall.
The second performance, also in Powell Hall, on Saturday, February 28, will be a 5:45 p.m. mini-recital of students and faculty who participated in the one-day TCW Suzuki workshop. It will be followed immediately at 6:00 p.m. by a faculty recital. It will feature UT Professor of Cello Wesley Baldwin and workshop faculty and guest cellists David Ying, Christine Kim, Dan Allcott, Kirsten Cassel Greer, Avi Friedlander, Lisa Liske-Doorandish, Robert O’Brien, Alicia Randisi-Hooker, and Mark Rudoff. They will be accompanied on piano by UT Associate Professor of Music Kevin Class and Bernadette Lo.
A 3:00 p.m. cello orchestra recital will be held on Sunday, March 1, in the Haslam Music Center Band Room.
