Williams-Wirth
Award recipient Sharrie Williams with Mike Wirth, dean of the College of Communication and Information.

News anchor and reporter Sharrie Williams received the Accomplished Alumni Award from UT last week during her visit to campus to speak to journalism students.

The Accomplished Alumni Award recognizes notable alumni for success and distinction within their field. A variety of alumni have been featured through the program, including CEOs of major corporations, Olympians, authors, artists, musicians, US ambassadors, and civic leaders.

The 2001 broadcast journalism graduate became the 5:00 p.m. weekday anchor and a reporter on 11:00 p.m. newscasts for ABC-owned and -operated WPVI-TV in Philadelphia, the fourth largest U.S. news market, in March 2014.

Before arriving in Philadelphia, she worked as a news anchor and reporter for TV stations in Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, and Texas.

While in Dallas, Williams covered major events, such as Super Bowl XLV, that made national and international headlines. She covered Shaquille O’Neal’s departure from the Miami Heat in 2008 and LeBron James’ decision to join the team in 2010. Success South Florida magazine selected Williams as one of its “Top 40 Under 40,” and she was featured on the publication’s cover.
