BOGCounting on the generosity of Volunteers, UT’s second annual Big Orange Give kicks off Homecoming Week and seeks to raise $500,000 in five days.

The campaign begins at 8:00 a.m. Monday, October 6, and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 10.

The campaign has doubled its goal from last year’s successful effort, which involved more than 1,630 alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and students pledging a total of $250,105 online.

This time, the goal is to generate $500,000 in five days. If the campaign hits $250,000, a special donor, Alan Wilson, former UT Alumni Board of Directors president, will donate another $250,000.

The campaign centers on encouraging Volunteers to give—however small or large. The focus is recruiting new donors and encouraging former donors to support UT again. Donations may be targeted toward specific colleges or departments. Those wishing to participate in the Big Orange Give may donate online.

Donors and friends of the university are asked to share why they Big Orange Give with photos on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using the hashtag #BigOrangeGive.

Donors can follow the UT Knoxville Alumni on Facebook and Twitter for updates throughout the week.

The launch will include video messages posted on the campaign website and social media pages featuring famous UT alumni such as American roots rock band the Dirty Guv’nahs, financial planning guru Dave Ramsey, and “Body Farm” author and beloved professor William Bass. More videos will be posted throughout the week featuring other UT “celebrities” who are giving to the campaign.
