Museum lovers, families, and other community members are invited to explore and enjoy a variety of free events this month at the McClung Museum of Natural History.
The events kick off at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 14, with a signing of the newly issued third edition of the popular book Tellico Archaeology and a lecture by author and McClung Museum Director Jeff Chapman. The lecture, “The Tellico Archaeological Project, 1967–1982,” will give an overview of the archaeological investigations at Tellico and the more than 12,000 years of Native American occupation in the lower Little Tennessee River Valley. The program is free and open to the public.

- Monday, September 15
Parents and caregivers with babies or toddlers through age 4 are invited to attend a free stroller tour on Monday, September 15. The 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. event will explore animals in art from around the world in the museum’s decorative arts gallery.
Participants will meet in the museum’s lobby before taking the tour. The event is part of a monthly series of free stroller tours that allow parents and caregivers to interact with one another and museum staff without the worry of disrupting other visitors. The program is free and open to the public, but reservations are necessary and are first come, first serve. Online registration is preferred and is available online. Participants also may call the museum at 865-974-2144 to make a reservation.
- Saturday, September 27
A Family Fun Day exploring the new exhibit Birds, Bugs, and Blooms: Natural History Illustration from the 1500s–1800s will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on September 27. The event, which will take place in the exhibit gallery and the museum’s lobby, will include educational activities focused on the exhibit, mini-tours of the exhibit, and a scratchboard art activity. All materials will be provided. The program is free and open to the public. Reservations are not necessary.
The McClung Museum is located at 1327 Circle Park Drive. It is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free.
On weekends, free parking is available on Circle Park Drive on a first-come, first-serve basis. Additional parking information is available online.
