Do you subscribe to Vol Update, the campus student e-newsletter? Wondering why you should?
Vol Update is an e-newsletter that helps students stay connected through features on news, deadlines, reminders, job and internship opportunities, student honors and achievements, event reminders, and more. All current undergraduate and graduate students receive Vol Update on Mondays and Thursdays during the fall and spring semesters.
The Office of Communications and Marketing has been working with the Division of Student Life to provide students with more timely, important information in a way that they will read it and to reduce the quantity of e-mails they receive from various administrative offices.
The presentation, or “packaging,” of information is the difference between a student opening an e-mail or deleting it without a second glance. The Office of Communications and Marketing is steadily increasing the open rates for the Vol Update e-mail. Last spring, the office sought student input to rename the e-newsletter to Vol Update. The office’s summer work focused on giving it a new look and its own Vol Update home page.
Key new features include the interactive sharing options, streamlined layout, and mobile- responsive design. All of these changes were based on student input.
But a well-designed package is only as useful as the content it contains. If your college, department, or group has student-focused news, reminders, events, or job or scholarship opportunities, you are encouraged to submit it to Vol Update so it can be shared on a platform that students are reading.
