The Office of the Dean of Students, in collaboration with UT Athletics, has kicked off a new initiative to recognize some of our university’s greatest Vols for their continued support of UT.

During home football game weeks, one student will be chosen as that week’s student honorary coach.

The student will get an insider’s experience by attending position meetings and practice Thursday afternoon prior to that weekend’s game and getting a tour of the UT Athletic facilities. On game day, the student will join the team for various pre-game activities and watch the game right on the field sidelines.

chrisThis week, Christopher Smith has been chosen as the student honorary coach for the UT versus Arkansas State game. Christopher is a senior studying English from Antioch, Tennessee. During his time at UT, he’s been involved with ME4UT, Student Alumni Associates, the Provost Student Advisory Council, and is the current president of the Multicultural Mentoring Program. Congrats, Christopher!

Want to know who will be chosen next? On Big Orange Fridays, a new student honorary coach will be announced for the following week. Look for announcements on the @RockyTopDean twitter account and in Monday’s Vol Update editions.

Students are selected based on their campus leadership and involvement, academic success, promotion of civility and inclusion, representation of the Torchbearer’s creed, and attendance at UT Athletics events. So keep your eyes peeled–a big orange invitation to be an honorary coach may be coming your way!
