Senior Brooke Elana Terry has received the 2014 Claxton Medallion.
The $5,000 award is given annually to a graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences who will be entering a fifth-year internship in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences to prepare for a career in teaching.
Terry, of Cordova, Tennessee, will graduate May 9 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a double major in history and English with a minor in middle grades education. She has a 4.0 grade point average. She plans to complete her fifth-year graduate studies and internship in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, where she will earn a teaching license and a master’s degree in education. Upon completion of her degree and certification requirements, she plans to be a middle school teacher of social studies and language arts.
Terry said she looks forward to working with middle school students.
“They are at a pivotal point in their development. I want to help them grow as people and students by fostering both their character development and learning.”
The Claxton Medallion was established in 1995 by former College of Arts and Sciences board member Philander P. Claxton Jr. in memory of his father, Philander P. Claxton.
