US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz was at UT on Friday to give the Baker Distinguished Lecture on Energy and the Environment. During a press conference and his lecture, Moniz praised the work happening at Oak Ridge National Laboratory that will lead to clean-energy developments such as more fuel-efficient vehicles, advanced biofuels, and lower-cost batteries for electric vehicles. He also posed for a photo with UT’s EcoCAR competition team. Established by the Energy Department and General Motors, and managed by Argonne National Laboratory, the EcoCAR challenge allows aspiring automotive engineers to design and build innovative environmentally friendly and economically efficient vehicles.
