An Institute for Nuclear Security Distinguished Lecture on the Y-12 National Security Complex’s Uranium Processing Facility project drew protesters and ninety registered attendees. The protesters were from the Oak Ridge Environmental Peace Alliance.
John Eschenberg, federal director of the UPF project, spoke about the major National Nuclear Security Administration modernization and construction effort that will replace the decaying Manhattan Project era uranium building. The project is a linchpin in Y-12′s plans to reduce the facility’s high-security footprint.
Eschenberg noted in his lecture that these large, nuclear-grade, one-of-a-kind facilities bring many challenges and frequently attract criticism. To read more about the event, visit the Knoxville News Sentinel.
