The Knoxville News Sentinel featured a story about UT being part of a $140 million national advanced manufacturing effort announced by President Barack Obama. The initiative could lead to more fuel-efficient cars and decreased costs for shipping and air travel. Suresh Babu, UT-Oak Ridge National Laboratory Governor’s Chair for Advanced Manufacturing, will help lead UT’s research effort as part of a Detroit-based facility called the Lightweight and Modern Metals Manufacturing Innovation Institute, or LM3I.
