imagesChemistry professor Jimmy Mays has responded to a challenge by Bill and Melinda Gates with a design that will encourage condom use in developing countries. He has received $100,000 from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for research and development of a prototype. Mays’s innovative condom design incorporates his work with superelastomers—polymers that can be repeatedly stretched further than existing rubbers without permanently deforming the shape of the material. His research is receiving ample media coverage including in U.S. News and World Report, New Republic, Bloomberg Businessweek, Yahoo! News, The Washington Post, and New York Daily News.
