UT has been rated one of the “best and most interesting” schools in the 2014 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges, which reviews higher education institutions in the US, Canada, and Great Britain.
UT is one of 300 universities to be included in the guide, which advises prospective students about academic quality, campus setting, financial aid, housing, and extracurricular activities. The publication was released this summer.
The guide praises UT for its undergraduate business program, calling it one of the strongest among public universities. UT also is recognized for its programs in architecture, communications, education, engineering, nursing, social work, and veterinary medicine.
The university’s location in the heart of Knoxville, its new buildings and ongoing construction projects, its close proximity to the Smoky Mountains, and its partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory all made UT one of the more “interesting” universities in the nation, according to the guide.
The Fiske Guide, compiled by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, makes an effort to review universities and colleges that feature engineering and technical schools, those with a religious emphasis, those with an environmental focus, and those located in the Southern and Southwestern United States.
