Elgin Kintner had two passions outside of his practice as a physician in Maryville — photography and hiking. He combined the interests in a collection of panoramas of the Great Smoky Mountains he snapped on his hikes. Though Kintner died at age 90 in 2008, his private photographs are available for all to see now thanks to the efforts of Kintner’s daughter, Beccie King, and the UT Libraries. The Kintner collection, titled “The Panoramic Images of Elgin P. Kintner, M.D.,” has been fully digitized, stitched and donated to the libraries by King. The News Sentinel featured the collection in this story.
