Kimberly Stafford, a Spanish lecturer in the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, has a big idea that will get UT faculty and staff members up and moving.

Stafford, an overall grand champion clogger, wants to share her passion for clogging by offering faculty and staff free lessons throughout April.

“I want to give back to my community in a fun and healthy way,” she said.

Clogging has come a long way since wooden shoes, and Stafford wants the classes to focus on this more casual style of clogging.

“Unlike other sports, age, clothing, level of impact, location, and time are irrelevant with clogging,” Stafford said. “You may wear whatever makes you comfortable and dance wherever you want—the grocery store, the doctor’s office, in the street, or in an organized performance setting.”

Stafford will teach the basics of clogging in four classes, and she hopes participants will continue to dance long after the classes end.

“You do not have to schedule your life around formal classes once you have the necessary tools. There are multiple ways you can practice, improve, or just move on your own schedule,” Stafford said.

All classes will be held in Room 1210 of McClung Tower at 5:30 p.m. The dates for classes are:

  • April 1: Level 1
  • April 8: Level 2
  • April 15: Level 3
  • April 22: Level 4
