Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Sally McMillan today announced two important changes in the waitlist policy that will make it easier for faculty and administrators to determine capacity needed in courses.

The changes put an end to two common registration practices that have made registration inefficient.

These changes are effective for fall 2013 registration:

  • Students who are already registered for a course will not be able to place themselves on a waitlist for a different section of that course.
  • Students will not be able to place themselves on a waitlist for more than one section of the same course.

These two changes will allow faculty and administrators to have a more realistic picture of the seats available for classes and to know when additional sections of a high-demand course are needed.

These changes will improve administrative decision making, which will result in students having better access to the classes they need to make steady progress toward an on-time graduation.
