Tom CervoneTom Cervone, managing director of the Clarence Brown Theatre, has been named executive director of the Tennessee Theatre.

He begins the appointment June 1.

Cervone has been with the Clarence Brown Theatre and the Department of Theatre for more than twenty years. He managed the academic and production aspects of the theater and kept it moving towards its operational, fiscal, artistic, and philosophical goals.

Cervone envisions future collaborations between the Clarence Brown and the Tennessee, which he called “a beautiful, jaw-dropping theater.”

“We’d love to partner with UT to bring some of the events that would appear at the Clarence Brown down to the Tennessee Theatre,” Cervone said, noting for example, an event similar to the Clarence Brown and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra’s co-production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Cervone is also a UT alumnus. He graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree in performance in 1993 and a Master of Business Administration degree in 2010.

“My twenty three and a half years here have totally prepared me and developed the skill sets that will help me when I get down there,” he said. “UT is in my blood.”
