KNOXVILLE—Alberto Gonzales, former U.S. attorney general, will speak at the University of Tennessee on February 22.
The event is at noon at the College of Law in Room 132. It is free and open to the public.
Gonzales now works with the firm of Waller Lansden Dorch & Davis in Nashville. He joined the firm in the fall of 2011, where he assists clients in governmental investigation and relations. The firm is sponsoring his visit to UT.
Gonzales, 56, served as the eightieth attorney general from 2005 to 2007 under President George W. Bush. As the leader of the Department of Justice, Gonzales focused on protecting children from sexual predators, preventing acts of terrorism and reducing the threats of gangs, drugs and violent crime.
As a counsel to the president in 2001, he was with Bush on September 11.Gonzales, with other leaders, began to formulate a response to the terrorist attacks immediately.
Gonzales has recently been named the Doyle Rogers Distinguished Chair of Law at Belmont University in Nashville. He began teaching full time there in January. He is also a contributing columnist for Fox News Latino, a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, on the board of directors of Drexel Metals, Inc. and on the CPR National Panel for Distinguished Neutrals.
During his speech at UT, Gonzales will share experiences and answer questions from the audience.
