Kristina Gordon, an associate professor of psychology and an administrator in UT’s clinical psychology program, has made a study of unfaithfulness in marriage and has found a three-step way couples can survive an instance of infidelity and keep their marriage intact. In the Knoxville News Sentinel, she likens such betrayals to a trauma that injures a pair’s “couple-ness,” and she has created a counseling process that can help them come to terms with an extramarital affair and move from betrayal to forgiveness.
