The Student Success Center will host the Mid-South Chapter of the College Reading and Learning Association’s 2012 spring conference in May, and proposals are now being accepted from professionals engaged in promoting student success at the college level.
The conference, entitled “Many Voices, Many Paths: Sharing Student Success Approaches,” will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11, in the Carolyn P. Brown Memorial University Center.
Proposal summaries of 150-250 words will be considered for a fifty-minute session in the areas of: assessment of learning centers, brain compatible teaching/learning; college reading; computer assisted instruction; creating a math lab; developmental/basic writing; English Speakers of Other Languages; graduate and professional student success; learning and study strategies; learning assistance; learning communities; learning disabilities; mentoring and coaching; multicultural issues; online tutoring; peer assistance programs; research and evaluation; supplemental instruction; study skills and strategies; structured learning assistance; technology and distance learning; TRIO/EOFP; tutors and tutoring; and writing centers.
Other topics that should be considered are: tutor training, study strategies, learning styles, coaching/mentoring, and discipline-related tutoring techniques.
