KNOXVILLE— A University of Tennessee, Knoxville, senior has been named vice president of the board of directors of the American Institute of Architecture Students, a leading organization for architecture students in the nation.
Brent Castro will begin the one-year appointment July 1. The paid, full-time position will require him to manage the organization’s office in Washington, DC. He also will travel extensively, visiting chapters in schools around the country.
Castro will bring a student perspective to forums with the American Institute of Architects and other national architecture organizations. Additionally, he will join the Board of Directors for the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture as a full voting member for two years.
“I would not be where I am at today without the support and education from the University of Tennessee,” Castro said. “My professors, administration, and our studio culture at UT have been essential to my development as a designer, leader, and individual. The places we live and learn within have an incredible power to sculpt our perceptions, passions, and goals.”
Scott Poole, dean of the College of Architecture and Design, called Castro’s appointment “an exceptional honor.”
Recognition of this caliber “continues to elevate the stature of our college and UT at a national level,” he said. “Emerging professionals need great advocates, and I am confident that Brent will be just that.”
