Pledge TreeIn the past two weeks the Switch Your Thinking Power Down Pledge Tree has been making the rounds to various buildings on the UT Knoxville campus.

The tree is an effort by the UT Office of Sustainability to encourage the campus community to save energy. Small steps taken by individuals, such as powering down a computer, unplugging electrical devices when not in use, and turning off lights, can make a big impact toward reducing the campus’s overall energy use.

The added bonus of signing the pledge tree with an inky thumbprint adds a fun, interactive element.

“Everyone we talked to was really receptive to taking the pledge and signing the Pledge Tree,” said Courtney Washburn, AmeriCorps member and sustainability outreach coordinator. “With more than 450 signees, campus is on the right track to conserve even more energy than we have in the past.”

The Pledge Tree will be on display at the Carolyn P. Brown University Center in January.
