The research of Justin Boyles, a post-doctoral research associate in ecology and evolutionary biology, was featured in the Kingsport Times-News. Boyles helped uncover the link between the fungus, Geomyces destructans, and the disease White-Nose Syndrome, responsible for destroying more than a million North American bats. “In my opinion, getting rid of it is unlikely to see a solution within the next two to three years,” Boyles told the newspaper. “This is going to take something that someone has never thought of before because fungal spores are incredibly resilient and incredibly hard to get rid of. So it will take something unusual to solve it. We just now know what we are aiming for.”
