KNOXVILLE – The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will join more than 180 universities across the country on Friday, November 11, to honor the more than 6,300 American casualties of military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan since September 11, 2001.
The Remembrance Day National Roll Call will begin at 8:00 a.m. in Circle Park, as campus and community volunteers read the names of the men and women who have died in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, which is now called Operation New Dawn.
A remembrance ceremony will take place at 1:45 p.m. with featured speaker Joe Johnson, former president of the UT system. At 2:00 p.m. the campus will take part in a national moment of silence to honor fallen veterans. The roll call will continue after the moment of silence.
UT Knoxville has more than 629 faculty, staff, and students who are active-duty U.S. military, veterans, reservists, or members of the National Guard.
