Faculty and staff can expect to get an electronic survey about the type of information that they store on their computer desktop, laptop, tablet, or other devices registered to the UT network.

The survey is part of a new sensitive data review process designed to ensure that UT complies with state and federal laws and regulations.

Faculty and staff will soon be asked to complete a short survey about the types of information stored on the device to determine if it contains sensitive, legally protected information such as Social Security numbers, health records, and certain types of student data. If the device does contain sensitive data, the Office of Information Technology will be offering assistance to ensure that it is stored securely, as required by law.

Because of the large number of devices on the network, this process will be phased in during the next several months beginning with new device registration. More information can be found at the Self Certification FAQ page at http://tiny.utk.edu/certify_faq. Questions and concerns regarding the survey should be directed to the OIT Help Desk at 974-9900.
