UT Knoxville assistant professor of Anthropology, Barbara Heath, has been taking students to Virginia every summer since 2007 to excavate two sites previously owned by Thomas Jefferson. Heath hopes to uncover what life was really like for the 18th century slaves of the Virginia Piedmont. Her research is especially unique because little documentation has been done from the perspective of the slaves. This video takes you to the excavation site.
