KNOXVILLE—The University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s College of Nursing has played a critical role in caring for and educating East Tennessee’s communities for almost forty years.
Community members can return the favor—by enjoying good food, drink, music, and the company of Barbara Dooley at the College of Nursing’s third annual NightinGala.
The event will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, at The Foundry at World’s Fair Park. The fundraiser is open to the public. The cost is $100 per person.
This year’s guest speaker is Barbara Dooley, mother of UT football coach Derek Dooley. Robin Wilhoit, co-anchor of WBIR’s Action 10 News, will serve as emcee. The evening will feature cocktail hour and dinner, silent and live auctions, skits by faculty and students, presentation of the Dr. Sylvia E. Hard Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award, and musical entertainment.
Funds will support the college’s programs and help UT continue to meet the growing need for nurses. Last year, more than 230 alumni and friends gathered at the NightinGala fund-raiser to show their appreciation and support for UT’s College of Nursing and helped raise more than $70,000.
“We are humbled by the support of our community, our Board of Advisors and our nursing practice partners who are committed to helping raise funds for academic support and student scholarships,” Victoria Niederhauser, dean of the College of Nursing, said. “This event is vital to advancing our college’s future.”

UT’s College of Nursing is a nationally recognized leader in the education of highly skilled, visionary nurses. The college enrolls more than 600 students in undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs. The master’s program offers concentration areas in global disaster, family practice, administration, pediatrics, mental health, and nurse anesthesia.
These programs attract extremely qualified students and prepare them for positions in all areas of the healthcare sector. The college’s graduates consistently achieve pass rates on licensure and certification exams of 96 percent or higher, exceeding state and national averages. The college runs a school-based nurse managed clinic in Knoxville, engages in international outreach with faculty and students, and generates practice nursing research that improves health, health care, and quality of life.
