Chancellor's ChallengeThe first month’s results are in –- and the news is good. Faculty, staff and students have helped to reduce our campus’s overall energy consumption by 0.8 percent.

Small behavior changes make a difference. February’s numbers show a decrease of nearly 140,000 kilowatt hours of electricity. We are tracking our progress by comparing each month’s total kilowatt hours to the combined average of the same month for the two previous years.

You can track our progress on the Switch Your Thinking website.

In January, Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek challenged us to take measures that would help us trim our consumption by another 10 percent this calendar year. Faculty, staff and students have already stepped up and are switching their thinking in a variety of ways.

Everyone is encouraged to keep thinking about how you can further conserve energy and other resources as you go about your daily routine on campus. To schedule a visit with UT’s Office of Sustainability, call 974-7780.
