UT Knoxville is participating in the “2011 Great Colleges to Work For” survey administered by ModernThink, LLC.
The target population for this survey is faculty and exempt staff. The survey will complement a system-wide employee engagement survey which will be conducted by UT Human Resources this fall. That survey will encompass faculty, exempt and non-exempt staff across the state and allow every campus to gain a picture of all employee groups.
Sponsored by The Chronicle of Higher Education, the “2011 Great Colleges to Work For” survey will be sent to all UT Knoxville full- and part-time faculty members, administrators and exempt staff. They will receive an email with instructions about how to access the survey. The subject will be: “An Invitation from Chancellor Cheek: 2011 Great Colleges Survey.” Participation is voluntary.
The survey will be conducted and reported by ModernThink. Responses to the survey are completely anonymous. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
The pursuit of Vol Vision and our Top 25 journey is the highest priority for this campus in the coming years. Making progress towards our goals will require participation from everyone on campus, with special emphasis on our faculty and staff. This is underscored through one of our top five priorities, “to recruit and retain stellar and diverse faculty and staff at UTK,” as well as our stated value for “a culture that appreciates and respects faculty, staff, and students and that acknowledges their interdependence and the vital role of every member of the Volunteer family.”
This survey is modeled after Fortune Magazine’s popular “Best Places to Work” issue, with one key difference: there is no ranking of institutions, but rather recognition of a variety of institutions that have built great workplaces. In addition to the opportunity for nation recognition, we will benefit from the program’s nationally-normed benchmark data, being able to compare UT responses with those from other campuses across the nation, including a sub-set of our Top 25 benchmarks.
ModernThink LLC is a leading research and consulting firm specializing in organization culture and workplace excellence. ModernThink manages all aspects of the survey process and ultimately performs the analyses that will inform our institution as well as determine which institutions will be recognized by the Chronicle of Higher Education.
Our campus will receive a summary report of our survey results which we will share with the larger community as a base for action planning and improvement.
