KNOXVILLE — The lecture featuring Jack Prelutsky, the nation’s first Children’s Poet Laureate, which had been scheduled for 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11, in West High School Auditorium, has been canceled due to the poet’s continuing health problems.

“As many of us feared, Mr. Prelutsky is recovering a bit more slowly than expected and has reluctantly decided to cancel his appearance,” said Miranda Clark, director of UT’s Center for Children’s & Young Adult Literature. The center was sponsoring the event along with the Knox County Public Library and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra (KSO).

Despite Monday’s cancellation, Prelutsky does plan to continue with his two weekend appearances in Knoxville.

On Saturday, “Jack Prelutsky’s Family Performance” will be held at 2 p.m. at the East Tennessee History Center. This event is free and open to the public.

On Sunday, Prelutsksy will perform “Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant” with the KSO in the Family Concert Series at 2 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre. The KSO is offering discount tickets to those who had planned to attend the canceled lecture. Interested patrons should contact the KSO box office at 865-291-3310.
