KNOXVILLE — To have a meaningful discussion about the major economic problems facing our country you first need to a solid understanding of those problems.
Sherry Kasper, professor of economics at Maryville College and visiting fellow at the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy, will provide “federal budget 101” on Tuesday, Sept. 21, during a presentation at the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Free and open to the public, Kasper’s presentation — “Economic Literacy in Civil and Uncivil Discourse: Addressing the Federal Debt and Deficit” — will begin at 7 p.m. in the Toyota Auditorium at the Baker Center, 1640 Cumberland Ave. Kasper’s lecture will be webcast live and archived for future viewing at http://tinyurl.com/24qq2ak.
As part of the Baker Center’s continuing series on civility, Kasper will provide an explanation of basic economic principles so participants can engage in civil and bipartisan dialogue about major economic issues facing our country.
Kasper said she’ll try to help people understand the federal budget by comparing it to the way families and businesses set up their budgets.
“I want to give people the language to discuss the federal debt and deficit … without polarizing rhetoric,” she said.
The Baker Center is a public policy institute integrating research, education, public programming and archives.
