KNOXVILLE — Judge and author Glenda Hatchett will deliver the keynote address at the Multi-Cultural Graduation Celebration on Saturday, April 24, at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Doors open at 4 p.m. at the University Center Auditorium. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to UT students and the Knoxville community.
After graduating from Emory University School of Law and completing a clerkship in the U.S. Federal Courts, Hatchett went to work for Delta Air Lines, as the company’s highest-ranking African-American woman. She served in dual roles as a senior attorney for Delta and public relations manager. She left Delta to accept an appointment as chief presiding judge of the Fulton County, Ga., Juvenile Court, making Hatchett the state’s first African-American chief presiding judge of a state court and the department head of one of the largest juvenile court systems in the country.
In 2000 she began presiding over the syndicated show, “Judge Hatchett,” under Sony Pictures Television. The show ran through the 2008 season and became well-known for Hatchett’s work intervening with troubled teens.
She is the author of the national best-seller, “Say What You Mean, Mean What You Say”. She has previously served on the board of directors of Gap, Inc., the Hospital Corporation of America and The Service Master Company. Currently Hatchett is a board member of the Atlanta Falcons Football Organization and serves on the board of advisors for Play Pumps International. She also serves on the Boys and Girls Clubs of America National Board of Governors and is the national spokeswoman for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), a program that works towards representing abused or neglected children in the court.

The Multi-Cultural Graduation Celebration is hosted by the Black Cultural Programming Committee and the Office of Minority Student Affairs. The event aims to unite, honor and bring together UT Knoxville students to celebrate the milestone of graduation.
