UT employees who take advantage of State of Tennessee group medical insurance coverage will notice some changes in their premiums in the coming months. At its last meeting, the State Insurance Committee approved a six percent increase in the medical premium, effective for the plan year 2010. There’s good news, too, as the committee also approved two medical premium holidays — two months for which no premium will be due.

The medical portion of group insurance premiums will not be deducted from December 2009 and January 2010 paychecks. This will not affect employees’ insurance coverage. Premiums for other coverage (life insurance and other optional plans) will be deducted from these paychecks. Medical premiums, including the six percent increase, will pick back up with February 2010 paychecks.
