Charles Glisson, director of the College of Social Work’s Children’s Mental Health Services Research Center, has received a five-year, $3.1 million grant from the National Institutes of Mental Health. The grant is titled “Testing an Organizational Implementation Strategy in Children’s Mental Health.”

The Knoxville Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) recently recognized the East Tennessee Veterans Memorial with a 2009 MPC Excellence Award. John Romeiser, a professor in the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, led the effort to create that memorial and currently serves as the memorial association’s president.

Dima Sarbo, who recently earned a Ph.D. in sociology at UT, has received an Oxford-Princeton Global Leaders fellowship. Sarbo will spend one year at the Centre for International Studies in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Oxford, and another year at the Niehaus Center for Globalization and Governance and the Woodrow Wilson School for Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.

Dawn Szymanski, an assistant professor of psychology, recently received a prestigious award from the American Psychological Association’s Committee for Women in Psychology. The award came at the APA annual convention in Toronto. She received the award for her outstanding contributions to the study of psychotherapy with women and the influences of various forms of oppression on mental and physical health in sexual minorities.

Lorraine Wallace, an associate professor of family medicine in the Graduate School of Medicine, was awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture and conduct research at Moldova State University College of Medicine and Pharmacy in Chisinau, Moldova. Wallace will teach undergraduate and graduate students subjects including writing for publication in English, epidemiology and health-related statistics.
