KNOXVILLE — Campus community members and visitors will notice changes in parking, with new areas opening and others closing to make way for construction projects, and a new look for the university’s Parking and Transit Services Office (PTSO).

New parking areas on campus include:

– the N-16 non-commuter lot on the corner of Lake Avenue and 22nd Street, and
– the Staff 28 lots on the block comprising Andy Holt Avenue, Francis Street, Melrose Place and Melrose Avenue, including lots previously assigned as N-1 non-commuter lots.

Parking lots due to be closed:

– the Staff 23 lot at the corner of Pat Head Summitt Street and Volunteer Boulevard, and
– a portion of the Staff 23 lot at the corner of Pat Head Summitt Street and Andy Holt Avenue.

The Staff 23 lots along Pat Head Summitt Street are closed to parking so they can be used as staging areas for the construction of the new Music Building and Student Health Services clinic scheduled for early next year.

Students, faculty, staff and visitors are required to have a permit to park in staff or student parking lots. Permits can be purchased at PTSO offices located in room 24 of the University Center and at 2121 Stephenson Drive, off Neyland Drive. Students and employees can purchase permits for one semester, an academic year or a full calendar year. Visitors can park in the University Center parking garage or purchase one-day parking passes.

The PTSO has a new mandate and a new look. The office has assumed responsibility for enforcing parking regulations in the surface lots and parking garages on campus, a job previously done by the UT Police Department (UTPD). The new PTSO parking enforcement officers have marked vehicles and uniforms to increase their visibility and distinguish them from UTPD officers.

PTSO vehicles are marked with a large letter “P” in a blue circle, the logo used in many countries around the world to indicate the location of parking facilities. This new model is similar to how many other large universities manage the distribution of parking and law enforcement on their campuses.
