KNOXVILLE — Carrie Fuller of Franklin and Joshua Leko of Knoxville are the recipients of the second annual Amway Endowed Scholarship in Sales Forecasting in the College of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Fuller and Leko will share $3,500 in scholarship funds. The company last year established a $50,000 endowment in the college to support students who either study sales forecasting or have a specific interest in sales forecasting careers.

Fuller will graduate in May 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She is majoring in logistics with a collateral in international business, has interned with Unilever and will intern with General Electric this fall.

Fuller is active in UT’s Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. She is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society and is a recipient of the Robert A. Burgin Business Scholarship. She also serves on the leadership team for Campus Crusade for Christ.

Leko will graduate in December 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is majoring in logistics with a collateral in international business. He is a member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He is vice president of Sigma Alpha Lambda honor society and a member of Phi Eta Sigma honor society.

Leko has received the Tennessee HOPE Scholarship, Henkel of America Scholarship, Home Federal Bank of Tennessee Scholarship and Pilot Corporation Scholarship.

Fuller and Leko were recognized at the ninth annual Demand and Supply Integration Sales Forecasting Management Conference held in May at UT Knoxville. The conference is organized each year by UT’s Department of Marketing and Logistics and draws sales forecasting management practitioners from companies and organizations worldwide. Amway is among the 22 organizational sponsors of the conference, which enables participating companies to gain a solid understanding and appreciation of sales forecasting, demand planning practices, market analysis and improving forecasting methodologies.

“Fuller and Leko are among many outstanding students taking part in our supply chain management and logistics program,” said Tom Mentzer, the forum’s executive director. “Companies with sophisticated, highly developed sales forecasting processes have documented returns on investment of more than 200 percent. It’s important for forum participants and our students to learn about methods that affect an organization’s bottom line.”

Dave Pocklington, director of sales forecasting and analysis at Amway, said the company is “thrilled to provide students like Fuller and Leko with the financial resources that will help them achieve academic success and a potentially bright future in their respective careers. There is a growing need for forecast analysts across numerous industries and business fields. We’re happy to help UT meet the demand.”

The Amway endowment was established as part of UT’s Campaign for Tennessee. The campaign, which began in 2005, launched publicly in April 2007 and will run through 2011, places UT among the ranks of the nation’s largest public and private institutions that have sought this degree of private support.

Amway is one of the world’s largest direct-selling businesses. Founded in 1959 and headquartered in Ada, Mich., Amway offers consumer products and business opportunities in more than 80 countries and territories worldwide.
