Nancy McGlasson, who has worked at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, for 40 years and spent the past seven as director of undergraduate admissions and assistant dean of enrollment services, is retiring June 30.
A nationwide search for her replacement has begun. The search committee is being chaired by Sally McMillan, associate professor and associate dean in the College of Communication and Information.
McGlasson began working at UT in 1969 as a graduate teaching assistant in English. Following graduate school, she worked for 15 years in international education. She worked as managing editor for Soundings: An Interdisciplinary Journal, and served as the director of CTEP, the Chancellor’s Teaching Evaluation Program. She also served as director of academic affairs program and evaluation services.
In March 2002, she became director of undergraduate admissions and assistant dean of enrollment services.
Assistant Provost and Director of Enrollment Services Richard Bayer credits McGlasson for helping enrollment services to meet its goals.
“Much of our recent success in enrolling high-ability students and achieving our enrollment goals year after year can be directly attributed to Nancy and her efforts,” he said. “Nancy’s dedication and compassion for her staff and passion for making UT’s admissions office the best in the Southeast can not be replicated.”
Susan D. Martin, interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, also commended McGlasson for her work.
“Her tireless devotion to the university and her exemplary work in undergraduate admissions leave as a legacy the thousands of excellent students who have chosen to attend UT Knoxville,” she said. “She has also made the campus a more welcoming and friendlier place to the many potential students and families visiting us each year.”
During her career at UT, McGlasson also has been active on the Commissions for Women and Blacks, Enrollment Management, Campus Beautification, SACS Affirmation Steering Committee and Advising.
