KNOXVILLE — Congressman Dan Lipinski, a former UT faculty member and now a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representative from Illinois, will be at the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, on April 14 to discuss the economic crisis and other issues.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 4 p.m. in the Toyota Auditorium at the center, 1640 Cumberland Ave.
Lipinski has represented Illinois’ Third Congressional District since 2004, and he serves on the House Committees for Transportation Infrastructure, Science and Technology and Small Business.
Lipinski’s talk, “An Inside Perspective on Congress During a Time of Crisis and Change,” will touch on the economic bailout and his committees’ work, particularly as it relates to science and the National Science Foundation.
Lipinski was born in Chicago and received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Northwestern University, a master’s degree in engineering-economic systems from Stanford University, and a doctorate in political science from Duke University.
Prior to his election to Congress, he taught at UT and the University of Notre Dame.
