This semester, the UT Knoxville College of Architecture and Design has invited several nationally and internationally prominent architects, designers, historians and theorists to present their work as part of the Robert B. Church III Memorial Lecture Series. The series wraps-up for the semester on Monday, April 6, with Craig Curtis, partner in The Miller/Hull Partnership.

Free and open to the public, Curtis’s presentation will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the McCarty Auditorium of the Art + Architecture Building.

His lecture, “Public Works: Bringing Life, Personality and Warmth to Public Architecture,” will explore various public works projects managed by The Miller/Hull Partnership.

Located in Seattle, the Miller/Hull Partnership’s design reputation is based on simple, innovative and authentic designs. Since its inception in 1977 the firm has pursued a rigorous logic in its design approach in the belief that architectural programs are best solved directly and efficiently. The firm’s design philosophy centers around two essential architectural ideas. One is to use a building’s structure to create a significant place within a site, and the other is to be sensitive to climate and to respond to environmental demands with the form of the building.

In 1994, Curtis became the fourth partner in Miller/Hull. Currently, the firm has seven partners and manages projects in Washington, Alaska, Oregon, California, Washington, D.C., Arizona, Illinois, Wisconsin, Montana, Nevada and Idaho.

Continuing architectural education credit can be earned at this lecture.

The lecture also is viewable over the Internet both live and in archive form. See the College of Architecture and Design’s Web site, http://www.arch.utk.edu. For more information, call 974-5267.
