For members of the Knoxville business community, the time to gather as much information about the area’s economic forecast is right now. Preparing for trends is the main reason that the Knoxville Chamber has initiated its Economic Speaker Series.

Joseph Carcello, Ernst & Young Professor in accounting and co-founder and director of research for UT’s Corporate Governance Center, will be the featured speaker during the Chamber’s Economic Speaker Series premier tomorrow at 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. at the Knoxville Chamber, 17 Market Square.

Carcello will share his thoughts on this region’s current economy and on the current economy of the nation. This presentation also will expound on recent lectures given about the country’s current economic market — a market that he suggests needed the recent extraordinary bailouts some large corporations received. Carcello also was a guest speaker last Friday on WNOX’s Hallerin Hilton Hill morning show discussing similar issues.

Carcello was named by Business Finance magazine as one of the “most influential” individuals in accounting and finance in each year from 2004 through 2007. Business Week recognized him as “prominent faculty” in its 2006 ranking of undergraduate business programs. He has provided consulting services on revenue recognition to the software industry, and has served the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as an expert witness.
