Office of Information Technology"Last week, Microsoft released a critical security update for all Windows operating systems, from Windows 2000 up to Windows Vista," said Robert Ridenour, UT assistant vice president for information technology, in an e-mail yesterday to students, faculty and staff in the Knoxville area. "The UT Office of Information Technology recommends you install this update as soon as possible if you have not already done so."

"To install the update, please open Internet Explorer. From the menu bar, choose Tools and then Windows Update. Follow the instructions for installing update KB958644 and any other critical patches you may be missing. If you have questions about this security update, you can refer to Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-067 on Microsoft’s Web site or contact the OIT Help Desk at 974-9900.

"To set up automatic updates for your computer, go to the Control Panel and open the Security Center. OIT recommends that you automatically download and install the updates to ensure the most recent security patches have been installed on your computer."
