Destination ImagiNation 2008 Global Finals

Destination ImagiNation is coming back to campus this week. Registration for DI begins Monday, May 19, at TRECS. The opening ceremony is Wednesday, May 21, in Thompson-Boling Arena, and the closing ceremony is Saturday, May 24 in the arena. Activities will be located across campus and at the Knoxville Convention Center and World’s Fair Park. Last year, there were 8,500 participants.

DI is the world’s largest problem-solving program for kids, with over 200,000 students in the United States and over 56 countries around the world participating. The process-based problem-solving program involves teams of up to seven participants working together to create unique solutions to team challenges. The students have to build their theatrical, structural, improvisational, scientific and technical skills in order to win the Global Finals.

UT’s Department of Conferences is hosting Tennessee DI Day on Friday, May 23, for anyone interested in learning more about participating in the program. Members of the UT campus community are invited to attend and observe the competition. UT has hosted DI’s Global Finals for the last eight years.

The program begins at 10 a.m. in the Knoxville Convention Center. Free lunch and parking will be provided. The program is free, but pre-registration is required.
