KNOXVILLE — From business textbooks to reconstructed American classics to children’s books, more than 160 books have been written recently by faculty at the University of Tennessee.
More than 100 faculty authors will be honored at a reception from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, in Hodges Library, Room 605.
The event is sponsored by the Office of Research and the University Libraries. Faculty books will be on display at the reception.
“We are extremely proud to support and recognize our faculty who produce books on a wide range of topics for current and future students and scholars around the world,” said Barbara Dewey, dean of UT Libraries.
The list of authors and publications is growing. So far, the library has collected 120 authors and 160 books written in the past year.
The topics of the books range from the very technical to lighter fare. A professor in theory and practice in teacher education wrote a book on reading. An associate professor in anthropology wrote about climate change in the Mid-Holocene. An accounting professor wrote a textbook about taxes. A creative writing professor wrote a book of poems and a children’s book. An English professor rewrote one of America’s classic novels.
“The scholarly contributions of the UT faculty come in many forms that significantly contribute to the richness of our society and the quality of human life,” said Brad Fenwick, vice chancellor for research. “While research that produces a grant, an article or a patent is meritorious, the tremendous effort and lasting contribution of a scholarly book are worthy of equal recognition and reward.”
