Ready for the World CafeA new dining option at UT—the Ready for the World Cafe—is opening minds and appetites to international cuisine.

Open to faculty, staff, students and the general public, the cafe is located in the Hermitage Room on the third floor of the University Center. Students in the advanced food production and service management class operate the cafe, creating budgets and marketing plans, crafting recipes, and planning menus. Each student in the class will serve as the cafe’s general manager for one week during the semester.

John Antun, assistant professor and director of the UT Culinary Institute in the Department of Retail, Hospitality and Tourism Management, dreamed up the cafe as an opportunity for students to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom.

The cafe serves an international-style buffet lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The menu changes weekly. The buffet costs $10 and carry-out is available for $8.50.

Students chose the cafe’s name to tie it to UT’s Ready for the World initiative, which strives to raise intercultural awareness and create a campus culture of diversity.
